Ten Finished Series We Have YET to Finish

Posted September 8, 2015 by Ely in Top Ten Tuesday / 31 Comments

Welcome to our latest Top Ten Tuesday post! Today the topic is unfinished series. Here’s the thing you need to know about us…we’re both kind of bad at finishing series. Like…really bad. It’s kind of embarrassing how bad we are at this. Please don’t judge us too harshly for all these books!

Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan
Michelle and I buddy read the first two books in this series earlier this year and we had so much fun but now we’re both just stuck at The Mark of Athena. I really need to finish this series this year, especially with Riordan’s new series coming out. I’m not ready to let go of Percy.

Unfinished series
Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray
I have one book left in this series. Unfortunately, that last book is the size of a small child. Seriously, it’s like 900 pages and I’m not okay with that. I really want to finish it, but I’m scared.

Unfinished series

Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta
I love me some Melina Marchetta, and I really enjoyed the first book Finnikin of the Rock but I haven’t continued on since. I don’t know if I should at this point? Or whether I should just start the series again?

unfinished series

Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden
I’m not going to lieβ€”the main reason I haven’t read past the first book in this series (though I’ve read it twice) is because it gives me serious anxiety. I read the first 80 pages of book two and it was so intense that I had to curl up under a blanket and drink tea for the rest of that day.

unfinished series

Across the Universe by Beth Revis
This is one of my favourite series of all-time. I’ve actually read the first book twice, and I pre-ordered the third book but have I read it nope? This is another case of me just not wanting to let go of this series. It’s going to happen this year though.

unfinished series

Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan: I actually hope to finish this series this year because I just love it so much. I have read the first two The Lost Hero and the Son of Neptune but need to read the last 3 in the series for my Greek God adventure with Percy and the gang to end and that makes me a little sad πŸ™

Harry Potter by J.K Rowling: Sooooooo yeah. This is probably my most embarrassing one and I am probably going to get hounded for this but yeah I’ve only read the first book and I only read it this year. When I was a kid and even now to be completely honest I was never that into fantasy and then I guess the hyped seeped in so much that I never read them. I will though, I will.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: I read the first 4 books about 5 or 6 years ago but never finished them. In hopes of finishing the series I have even re-read the first 3 books just so I can refresh my memory and continue on but noooope it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe soon?…..

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: I only need to read the third and final book but the mixture of me forgetting what has happened and it being big enough to kill a person if you threw it at them have meant that I haven’t read it yet.

Hourglass by Myra McEntire: The last book in this series Infinityglass is only like 200 something pages and shouldn’t actually take me too long but I find the fact that the main character keeps changing in each book just slightly annoying. I’m on a contemporary kick at the moment anyway but when I feel the need to get into something Sci/Fi and action this is likely where I’ll go.

What series have you not finished? Or are you a superhero at finishing series? If yes, PLEASE TEACH US YOUR WAYS.

  1. It’s always hard deciding whether to reread ALL the books or continuing blind. #bookwormproblems

And I can see why you’d be hesitant to read Harry Potter now – not sure the hype would live up to it πŸ™‚

  2. Hi! I don’t like fantasy much either and I dislike hype even more πŸ™‚ But I finally gave in and read Harry Potter and ended up really enjoying them. πŸ™‚ My TTT

  3. Oh, I had no idea that the third book in Gemma Doyle series is 900 pages long. Now I’m even more excited to read it because I love reading chunky books.

Lumatere Chronicles is amazing! You don’t actually need to reread, or you could check out Recaptains for a review (shameless self-promotion haha) but you should definitely continue the series!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone and VA series are both amazing!

  4. YES! You HAVE TO finish Harry Potter. It’s book blasphemy that you haven’t πŸ˜‰ I also need to start and finish the VA series, especially since I own every single book. I still need to finish the Percy Jackson series, and then have to start the Heroes of Olympus series. I read his new book, Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer, and really loved it. So I am excited to read more by him.

  5. I left the Vampire Diaries off my list. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with it though. I’ve only read the first book.
Heroes of Olympus is good so I suggest you continue if you want to.

  6. Clare

I have a hardcover box set of Daughter of Smoke and Bone and it’s probably one of the heaviest things I own (not counting furniture) it’s ridiculous and I could probably use it as a weapon if I ever got burgled! But the third book is definitely worth the read!

    • Michelle

OMG I have the same hardcover set, I got them for Christmas and they are beautiful but they are also deadly weapons!

  7. Omg! You guys! We have so much in common it’s unreal! Seriously I totally get what Ely says about books giving her anxiety and not wanting to let go of a series. I’ve had both of those things happen to me when I was reading The Darkest Minds trilogy which is one of my all-time favorites. And I had the exact same problem with The Vampire Academy series as Michelle. It took me a couple of tries to get through those two last books and I re-read the first 3 or 4 more than once so I could finally catch up but then ended up not following through. I managed to finish it though and it was awesome!
    Thanks for stopping by!

Um, hello new friend! I had super super bad anxiety when it came to reading In the Afterlight. It took me SO long to convince myself to read because it’s one of my all-time favourites too. Excuse me while I go follow you on every social media platform now πŸ˜›

      • Hahaha! I feel like you’re the kind of person who would be reading the action scenes while pleading “please don’t die, please don’t die” just like me. If I could still read while covering my eyes I would do it in those scenes, I swear.
I already accepted you Goodreads friend request and added Airs Awakens to my TBR, it sounds fantastic! I’m following your blog on Bloglovin too πŸ™‚

        • Ely

YES! I was so scared that Liam was going to die and I couldn’t have dealt with that. I had to put it down about a hundred times because it was too much!

I saw! I’m so excited. It’s such a great book! I hope you can get to it soon πŸ™‚

  8. Ha–I’m like the ANTI-superhero of finishing series! I’m terrible at it! Sometimes it’s the fact that I don’t want to let go of a series, as you say, and then sometimes I’m worried that the final book will be a letdown somehow. The struggle is real!

  9. Your gifs are awesome! The third book in the Gemma Doyle, I second, is the size of a small child. While reading it, I actually dropped it in the snow- it’s so heavy. Water damage and all, I finished it and as much as it is good, it is very intimidating to get into.
    Happy reading!
    my Top Ten Tuesday!

  10. I’m going to have to reread Finnikin of the Rock before delving into the rest of the series too. And yes, the last Gemma Doyle book is huge! I like to keep it around just in case I’m in quick need of a weapon.

  11. Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier!

You’ve got some great series listed here. Harry Potter, Vampire Academy…two of my favorites. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was good. I actually plan to re-read that series. And Across the Universe is on my TBR list too!

  12. I had so much trouble finishing the Gemma Doyle series for that exact reason. It’s just too many pages! I liked the series, though, so I guess it was worth finishing.

As for the Lumatere series, that is DEFINITELY worth finishing. What’s nice is that there’s a bit of a time gap between Finnikin and Froi, so I don’t really think you need to reread Finnikin.

  13. Love the cone of shame.

I think need to put Tomorrow When the War Began and Finnikin of the Rock on my TBR list. I’ve heard good things about both.

I don’t even now what to say about HP. I’m nearly fifty, for God’s sake, and I’VE read all of them. It would be weird to read them now, though; I can see that.

  14. This reminds me that I have to reread Percy Jackson soon. Like so many other things…
Great gifs by the way, very fitting.

    • Michelle

Okay re-reading Percy Jackson would not be to hard of a task. I love that series but if you had to re-read all the Heroes of Olympus then that’ll take a lot longer haha.

  15. Love the gifs! I don’t like to let series go either- it’s so sad! I only read one Harry Potter also, but I have no plans to continue, so I didn’t put it on my list. Plus, it may have elicited some hate comments πŸ˜‰ And a 900 page book!? That would scare any reasonable person. I don’t like books that can fall and kill your pets or something. Not okay.
