September Reading Update

Posted September 20, 2017 by Ely in Update / 4 Comments

I want to apologise that we stopped posting this month. We’ve both been in massive slumps. I’m trying to push through that today and get something out. I thought an easy place to start would be with a reading update, so this is a few things I have read, am reading and will be reading this September.

Read

The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend

This one isn’t out until October, but it is amazing. I can’t say much, but it will blow you away!

MaddAddam by Margaret Atwood

I finally finished the MaddAddam trilogy, and let me tell you—this one made me cry like a baby. I’m planning to talk a lot more about Atwood in the very near future.

Currently Reading

The Wounded Guardian by Duncan Lay

This one is a reread for me, but I love it. I read this four years ago, but never continued the trilogy so that’s what I’m planning to do now. I’m about 400 pages into this, so hopefully I’ll finish it this month.

The Last of August by Brittany Cavallaro

I read A Study in Charlotte recently and really enjoyed it, so I’m continuing on with this one. I’m actually hoping to finish it tonight.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

I’m not very far into Nevernight at all—maybe 50 pages? I’m struggling with it a bit. Any encouragement for this one would be appreciated!

Heir of Thunder by Karissa Laurel

I read about 150-200 pages of this in one night, but then got distracted and haven’t read it since. I was loving it, so I definitely want to get back to it soon!

To Be Read

The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter

I borrowed this from the library the other week. I really want to get into Pratchett but I was a little scared. I’m super into sci fi right now, so I’m hoping this’ll be a good in.

Every Breath by Ellie Marney

Yes, I’ve read this before but I wanted to reread it for a post I have in mind. So keep your eye out for that!

Corruption by Jessica Shirvington

I read Disruption, the first book in this duology, recently and loved it so, of course, I had to pick this up. I am so ready to have ALL the emotions.

And there you go—a reading update! I hope to get back into blogging soon, but I don’t know what shape that is going to take at the moment. I hope you’ll all still be here.

  1. Tip for Nevernight: skip the footnotes, and it gets better after about 100 pages. The footnotes really dragged the story for me — when I started skipping those, things sped up a lot more. They’re mostly world-building notes so you don’t really miss a lot. The first 100 pages were the hardest for me. Then they get to murder school, which is excellent.
