Pre-NaNoWriMo Goals

Posted September 7, 2015 by Ely in Writing / 10 Comments

It’s September which means NaNoWriMo is getting closer and closer. If you don’t know NaNoWriMo (or just NaNo) refers to National Novel Writing Month. Writer crazy people like me attempt to write 50,000 words of a novel during November. Like every year since 2011, I am participating in NaNoWriMo this year and I intend to win…again.

(Me, two hours into NaNoWriMo…every year so far)

In order to that, there’s a little preparation I need to do first. So get ready for a September and October filled with writing posts. But I came up with a plan so I don’t spam you all, and so Michelle doesn’t send me angry messages on Facebook telling me to shut up (which she’s never actually done but you never know). I can only post something writing related for every writing goal I get done.

There are a lot I want/need to get done before NaNo starts. I’m hoping this way I can get to all of my goals as well as talk to you guys about my writing more. In case this fails, you should go follow Lori’s writing posts because she’s great. So, those goals?

1. Hit 30k of ‘Ketura’
2. Hit 40k of ‘Ketura’
3. Hit 50k of ‘Ketura’ (the end, maybe?)
4. Research tarot decks for horror/mystery
5. Read through Tied Together with beta notes
6. Plan This Bitter Dark, aka NaNo novel
7. Start research for Celtic Retelling
8. Come up with title for ‘Ketura’
9. Plan horror/mystery novel

There are seven weeks left before November, and so I created nine goals in the hope that I can still do one a week, in case a goal falls through. Some of the goals are easier than others, and no, I’m not talking about the title one (I suck a titles). Hopefully I’ll be seeing you all next week with one of these goals done.

Oh, and you can add me as a writing buddy if you so wish. Are you excited for NaNoWriMo?

  1. Yay, for Pre-NaNoWriMo goals! I’d like to do something like this soon, but I’m so unorganized right now with regards to what exactly I’m writing. Mini-goal before this Wednesday: get organized!

On another note, I was wondering if you might want to be a guest blogger on Books o’ the Wisp in October? I’m hoping to line some people up who can serve as experts and serve up their best writing advice. Is this something you might be interested in???

It was actually your writing post the other day that made me realise I needed to get organised. I’d been procrastinating because I felt a little overwhelmed with what I thought I needed to get done before NaNo, turns out there’s not that much!

I would absolutely LOVE that!!!!! You’ve just made my day. Oh god, I’m so excited already! 😀

      • Yay ^_^ I’m DM you on Twitter later in September with more details. Until then think of what specific area of writing you might want to talk about, or if you just want to offer up some of your best NaNoWriMo survival tips. Also think about what specific Wednesday in October you might like to have your post up! So excited 😀

As for Wednesdays, I can do literally any one. I only have one thing planned for October and that actually requires no planning. I’ll think of some post ideas though!

  2. AHHHH NANOWRIMO IS SO SOON. Honestly I’m not sure if I can win this year (given that October, usually my NaNo prep month, is THE FREAKING HSC).

    But we’ll see 😉

Good luck with your goals!! *waves pom-poms*

I (stupidly) did NaNo two years ago while I did VCE. I didn’t win, though I did write 27,000 words of something…I can’t actually remember what. The stress was killer. I would not recommend it.

      Thanks Emily!

  3. Oh help, did you really have to make a NaNo post two months in advance? Now I’m freaking out hahaha. I haven’t written in a few months, but I recently wrote 1000 words for two days, which is a start, I guess? I’m hoping to join, but if I don’t, eh. Maybe I’ll just unofficially join but not try to get to 50000. 🙂 Good luck!

My sole purpose in life to make other people nervous/excited about NaNo. Legitimately though, I got three non-writer friends to join last year…somehow, I don’t really know what they were doing -.- But honestly, I believe that NaNo is just something to help you to write. It doesn’t matter if you write 50,000 or 5. It’s words.

  4. Neat goals! 😀 I’m doing to NaNo as well! I’m starting planning next week! I have a lot of plotting I need to do so I have a game plan haha. What genre is Ketura? I’m doing a sci-fi this year. 🙂

    • Ely

Ketura is mostly contemporary with a sprinkle of fantasy. Oooh, sci-fi sounds fun! I know I’ll change my mind 50 times between now and November as to what I’m writing, so at least if I start planning now I won’t stress as much.
