So, I adopted a kitten. Yes, you read that right. Me, Ely, lover of all dogs and victim at the paws of many cats, adopted a kitten. It’s all about living life on the edge right? No, seriously, adopting this kitten is probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. A lot of you would have seen him already on Twitter or Instagram, but I wanted to officially introduce you all to him.
So this is Percy—the love of my life. He’s adorable, obviously. But I wanted to talk about my adoption story as well as sharing some gorgeous pictures of him.
The last few months I’ve desperately wanted a pet. I’m sure some of you will know of my dog Tara. I still love her dearly, but she has stage four heart failure and I’m housesitting for my grandparents at the moment. I looked at dogs, but they need a lot of space so I decided on a cat. I knew I definitely wanted to adopt a rescue, and that I wanted a male kitten but that was it.
I looked everyone and eventually found Pet Rescue. I found this gorgeous kitten who I feel immediately in love with and applied to adopt him. Fast forward a week, I was going to go meet the foster carer for this kitten with the boyf. We got there and met this kitten who was incredibly skittish and not ready to be homed at all. Meanwhile, the boyf was cuddling with this gorgeous boy. That was my Percy.
His name was originally Marvin, which is my nickname for my dad. He can do the world’s greatest Marvin the Martian impression. So Percy felt like he was the right kitten for me. Because he’s a rescue, they are unsure of this actual age but they say he’s about nine months. I decided that his birthday would be the 28th of August, which is also my protagonist’s birthday from my main novel.
Percy is honestly the most beautiful cat. I’m probably biased, but he’s a real sweetheart. He loves people. My friend Sarah came to visit one night and within two minutes, Percy was nuzzling into her hand and purring like mad. He just adores anyone he can get attention from. Our morning ritual involves a good ten minutes of nuzzling and cuddles before breakfast, and it just warms my heart, honestly. I’m getting emotional just writing about it.
So that’s Percy. What do you all think of him?
