Make Me Read It Read-a-thon 2017

Posted July 7, 2017 by Ely in Events, Make Me Read / 34 Comments

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, it’s this year’s Make Me Read It Read-a-thon announcement! Due to popular demand, Val @ The Innocent Smiley and I have bought this read-a-thon back for its third year. Thank you to everyone who asked about it, and we’re sorry it’s a little late! Anyway…

What is #MakeMeRead?

Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten.

Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers/bookstagrammers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read.

When the readathon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there’s a tie, then it’s your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible.

When is it?

This year the read-a-thon will be running from August 6th through to August 13th. You can start reading as soon as it hits 12am in your timezone, or whenever you’d like.

Remember that the idea is to have people vote on your books, so try and get that post/Twitter poll/photo up as soon as possible in order to give your fellow participants the chance to vote!

  1. I’d LOVE to do this with you guys! How many books would you recommend? I’ll brainstorm some ideas of what I should put on the list. Lovely concept. Cannot wait to see what you’ll read. Are we doing sprints or anything on the Internets? Let me know!

    • Generally we pick home many we think we’ll read that week and add 4-5 more books. Sometimes books don’t get any votes, so it’s worth having a little room to wiggle. There’s no official sprints, so anyone can host them! There’ll be some other stuff closer to the date 🙂

  2. OMG. I’m so excited! I participated last year and LOVED the idea. I completely didn’t even realize it would be about time for this readathon to pop up again until I was going through my Top 5 most viewed posts (I have them in my sidebar), and this was one of them, so I realized you might be doing it again! I’m so happy I didn’t miss it. Can’t wait! Count me in for sure. 🙂

  3. This is so exciting! I saw a couple people posting about the Make Me Read It readathon on Goodreads and just found your page. It’s actually perfect timing for me to join in this year as my husband will be out of town and I’ll have plenty of time to read that week! Do you have an Instagram presence/hashtag?

    • We’ll be using #MakeMeRead on Instagram, and you can tag Val and I if you’d like (@innocentreads & @elyjayne)
