Hello, hello, hello! Yes, you read that correctly—The Make Me Read It Read-A-Thon is back for 2016 *cue screaming* If you didn’t know, the gorgeous Val (The Innocent Smiley) and I ran this read-a-thon this time last year (back when I was on a different blog), and by popular demand (okay, it was like one person) we bought it back again. Just like last year we will be using the hashtag #MakeMeRead on Twitter and Instagram.

So, how does this work?

Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten.

Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read.

When the read-a-thon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there’s a tie, then it’s your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible.

When is it happening?

The read-a-thon will take place from the 9th to the 16th of July in your timezone. You can start anytime you want on the 9th, so just fit it around whatever works for you! As for the voting, that’s up to you too! Just remember to link your post/photo/video/tweet in the linky at the end of this post so everyone can vote on it!

Now for the best part—Michelle and I’s polls! NOW CLOSED.

  1. This sounds super cool!! I love polls. This readathon speaks to me just for the polls 😛
    I’ll definitely join in!

  2. You must read P.S. I Love You because I love that we both love Cecelia Ahern and I need you to love this book as well. ♥

    • I had hoped when I created this poll that you’d vote for it. I don’t know that anyone else will, but an Inge vote counts for more than one, right?

  3. YES YES YES I am doing this again! Even though it covers my last week at work so everyone will want my attention. Muahaha NO I WILL BE READING.

  4. This is going to be so much fun! I’ve just decided on a list so I’m setting up my post. It looks like you might get to read Code Name Verity, Ely! Yaaay! Though I also really want you to read Garth Nix. TBR decisions are hard, even when it’s someone else’s TBR.
    Can’t wait for July now!

  5. This looks like fun, and I think (fingers crossed) that I have a light week that week, so I could participate. But how did you make those cool polls? (PS. I heard about this readathon from Annika at Hiding Books.)

  6. For Ely I chose Confess because well, it’s Colleen Hoover! The Queen of New Adult. Confess was one of my favorite reads! Be sure to grab some tissues.

  7. For you, I voted for Everneath and What I Thought Was True. I want to know more about those two. I hope it goes great for you! For Val, I picked Frostfire because it was one of the books that I’ve heard before and I love Amanda Hockings writing.

This is my first year signing up. Good luck everyone and happy voting 🙂

  8. GAH I HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM. I totally want to do this but I literally just signed up to do another read-a-thon from the 3rd to the 9th. I MAY DO IT ANYWAY. SPOILER ALERT I AM LITERALLY INSANE.

  9. Just found out about this read-a-thon and it sounds so cool! Just signed up and can’t wait to be able to start reading. And you have so many great options yourself! Colleen Hoover is always awesome though. 🙂

    • Thanks for joining in, Vanessa! That’s the only problem with this—everyone’s votes make me want to just start the books already!

    • Absolutely! The linky wouldn’t let Val keep it open for any longer 🙁 Just keep sharing on Twitter 😀

    • That’s alright, Piper! Unfortunately, the linky had a limited time frame that wasn’t our choice 🙁

  10. So excited to start! Not much longer. ☺ I had a problem with my post on my blog and the voting poll I was using disappeared from my post. I had to start it over. If anyone gets an extra second and sees this comment, I would love if you could pop over to my blog and vote. Leave me a comment on my website so I can vote for you as well.

    • We haven’t technically closed sign ups, it was just that the linky could only stay open for a limited time. I’ll make sure to share your post around!

  11. Just curious. Have you ever thought about modifying doing this as a yearly challenge? Like how some Booktubers and bloggers have a jar and pull out 1 book randomly for their monthly TBR. Could do this as a monthly challenge and maybe still have the read-a-thon annually or multi-annually. Thanks for hosting. Just wanted to say a brief apology. I thought I was voting for Ely and Val instead of Ely and Michelle. So sorry Michelle :/. I saw an L and assumed Val.
