Goals For NaNoWriMo 2017 + Beyond

Posted October 29, 2017 by Ely in Writing / 7 Comments

Hey everyone! I know it’s been a few weeks again, but I know a lot of bloggers are also in huge slumps so I don’t feel completely alone in this. I just haven’t had anything worth blogging about lately! Today, however, I want to do a goals post. As most of you would be aware, NaNoWriMo starts on Wednesday so in celebration, I thought I’d share my writing plans for the rest of 2017.

Finish the second draft of Tied Together

This is my NaNoWriMo prject—I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish it by the end of the month, but if not I’m giving myself until the end of the year. I just really want to get this draft done so I can send it off to some readers in the early months of 2018, which by the way, I am looking for 3-4 more people if anyone is interested!

Plan and start rewriting Ketura

This one has been sitting mostly untouched for a year now and so I’d really like to get the ball rolling on the next stage. I would honestly be happy with just getting chapter one rewritten by the end of the year, just so there is something happening with this. I have been thinking a lot about the logistics of this project and what I need to change plot/character-wise to make it more interesting and have a greater impact.

Plan new project

I like the idea of starting 2018 off with a new project. (Kudos to Sarah for the encouragement). I already have an idea in mind, but I need to work out the finer details of it. The hope is that by finishing TT in November, I can really dedicate December to working on getting this idea up and running. I’ll be talking more about this idea once in its in the developing stages, but I will say that it features a diabetic character!

Straighten out my projects

This is probably just a one afternoon job, and that is to write down the ideas that I have for projects. I have a lot of plot bunnies swirling around in my brain at any given point, so I think it would be helpful for me to write them all down so I can box them away until I’m ready for them. I’ve down posts like this before—here and here, and I’d be happy to do another if people would be interested!

And there we go! What are your writing plans?

  1. I’ve been falling into blogging slumps off and on all year so I totally understand you there. I’m also planning on doing NaNoWriMo, but I don’t exactly have a plot or anything figured out yet (which isn’t boding well). My goal had been to finish the first draft of one novel in 2017 and, hopefully, NaNoWriMo will get me moving on that before the end of the year. Good luck on your novel, by the way!!

    • Sometimes that ends up working well though! I hope you manage to get your first draft done—it’s a gruelling process, that’s for sure 🙂

  2. Great list of goals! I know you can do it ^_^ (And I’m still up for being a beta reader, if you think I’ll be of any use. I don’t read a lot of contemporary, but I love what I’ve heard so far.)

    • I keep promising to send you this book and then I never do it! *hides* I promise I will get it to you as soon as this draft is done 🙂

  3. I would be willing to be a beta reader if you still need one. I did nanowrimo back in high school. I have been wanting to do it again, but I haven’t came up with any good ideas.

    • Absolutely! I’ll ping you a message when the draft is ready to see if you have time then 🙂 Sometimes it’s a matter of just writing…

  4. No rush! I forget about it too and then when I remember I worry that I’ve disappeared for too long and you don’t want me to read it anymore. Lol.
