Ten Books To Read If You Like Fast Paced/Action Packed Reads

toptentuesdayWe had a tough time over here at Tea & Titles discussing what our topic would be for this TTT. We struggled, we really did, but in the end we finally agreed on something. Fast Paced and Action Packed books. We all love a book that just flies by because there is just so much happening and kickass characters and books that have us on the edge of our seat.  So today we bring you our top ten fast paced and action packed reads.

False Memory Series by Dan Krokos – This series follows a group of four teens based around our main falsememorycharacter Miranda’s point of view. These teens are trained as weapons but don’t really know why. As the group try to learn the truth they also have to fight to stay friends (memory loss is involved). Extreme ass kickery is included and I think this is a very underrated series. If you like the idea of clones, other dimensions, and aliens and just a whole lot of jam packed action then pick this up stat.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline – This book followers a teenager named Wade as he goes on a literal treasure hunt that is set in the future and involves virtual reality? Sound like a lot? well it is but in a good way. This was a book I never expected to like mostly because of a lot of sci-fi and 80’s references not that I hate those things I just didn’t think I’d understand a lot of what was mentioned but alas I was proven wrong and now I want you all to go forth and read this book.

Penryn and the End of Days series by Susan Ee – This one is probably my most obvious answer and I know a lot of you have already read this series or at least started it and know what I’m talking about but I couldn’t do a list of fast paced books and just not include it. With the world in peril because Angels have taken reign it is up to Penryn to look after her family but when her sister gets taken by Angels her life is turned up yet another notch. From there this series goes from fast paced to faster paced and will have you reading so quickly you’ll wonder where time went.

steelheartSteelheart by Brandon Sanderson – This is a book I desperately want to reread and finally read the sequel of becuase this book was so good. I borrowed this book from the library originally because I was that unsure about it but yet again I was proven wrong. This book is about a crazy event that happens in the world that gifts a whole bunch of people with super powers, the catch is all these people then become evil. The story follows David a young man that wants to join a rebel group to stop the man that killed his father. Shake what your Mumma gave you and get on it!

The Lux Series by Jennifer L Armentrout –  Another obvious pick that I just had to include because it’s one of my favourite series ever. This series follows Katy as she moves into a new house next to a set of aliens…. SEXY ALIENS. She becomes entrapped in their world and falls for Daemon Black but falling for him comes  with conseqences. This series goes from one extreme to the next and you’ll all be thinking “wow that escalated quickly” but you wont care because they are so good. JLA is like my queen so if you haven’t already read one of her books  so so, she has many.

The Legend series by Marie Lu
Dystopians are generally super action packed books, but once of the very best in my opinion is Legend and its sequels. The story is really enjoyable, and the writing will keep you on the edge of your toes. Sort of off topic, but the ending to Champion is also really incredible.

The Every series by Ellie Marney
This is one of my absolute favourite series. I probably talk about it way too much but it’s so mind-glowingly good. It’s a sort of modern day Sherlock inspired series set in Melbourne (yay for hometowns) and follows two teenagers, Rachel Watts and James Mycroft, as they solve some crimes together and get into a lot of terrifying situations. It’s amazing. You should read it…right now.

Yeah, Ellie Marney. Stop it.

Jurassic Park/The Lost World by Michael Crichton
Michael Crichton is my new literary crush so it’s only natural that he made this list. You’ve probably heard of these because of the movies, but let me tell you, the books are even better. There is so much stuff going on in these books—we’re talking constant serious anxiety-inducing action with no breaks. Fun stuff.

Reboot/Rebel by Amy Tintera
This is a sort of a weird zombie/dystopian cross-thing, but it also seriously good. There’s a lot of action—lots of fighting and big plans rebellious plans. Who doesn’t love that stuff?

Tomorrow, When the War Began by John Marsden
I can’t just have one OzYA book on this list—that would be blasphemy! The Tomorrow series is one of the original OzYA books, or at least it is in my opinion. The series follows a bunch of Australian teenagers who have gone off on a camping trip, only to come back to find Australia’s been invaded. There are incredibly action scenes, and it starts off a little slow but then it’s so fast paced from then onwards that you won’t be able to keep up. And yes, I kind of do have a fear of planes flying over my house…

What fast paced/action packed books would you recommend?

  1. I really liked the Penryn and the End of Days series as well as Tomorrow, When the War Began (I read the gif with an Aussie accent 🙂 ).
I’ve been meaning to read Jurassic Park and Ready Player One for ages.
    Great choices! 🙂

  2. I’ve been hearing so much about Ready Player One. Reading your little synopsis only makes me want to read it more. A fast paced book is just what I need to read during school:)

    Thanks for the recommend!

  3. THERE IS A LOT OF GOOD IN THIS LIST. I just recently bought Steelheart (because I’ve read a lot of Sanderson’s other fantasy books, but not his YA, SO I AM EXCITED FOR THAT). And then I also bought the Lux series because I have never ever read ANYTHING by JLA (cue shock here). I know.

And I would LOVE TO READ anything by Ellie Marney, but the problem is that her books at never at the library, and probably because she’s not an American author. Or at least well known in the US. SO THAT SUCKS because I love Sherlock Holmes retellings/adaptations.

    Awesome list you two! 😀 😀 😀 <3

  4. I’m all about fast paced books! I recently bought Ready Player One, as well as the fact that I own Angelfall and Worlds After, although I have yet to read any of them! You’re making me look forward to them all the more. I read the first book in the Lux series, but that wasn’t really my kind of read >.> And I have heard so many wonderful things about Brandon Sanderson that I can’t wait to read any of his books!
