December is always a crazy month, right? I am no exception, so let’s just get going with this wrap-up.
That is 33 books. Yes. That happened. I’ll talk about how I managed that in a second, bur first—which of these have I reviewed? At the moment, the only one that is live is Under Rose Tainted Skies. Tomorrow will be my The Boundless Sublime review, and later in the month will be The Abyss Surrounds Us. I’ll also be talking about Dead Girls Society and The Hunger Games in the very near future.
Which were my favourites? I adored My Life on the Road, Blue Nights, and The Hate Race—seems like I’ve been on a non-fiction binge. On the not so great list; The Pledge, The City Born Great and the Little Prince graphic novel.
Now, how did I read 33 books in one another? I cheated…kinda. Cee’s post the other day alerted me to the existence of Tor.com, on which I read 13 stories for free. I would highly, highly recommend the site. I will be talking more about it, and the stories I’ve read, in the future.
This month, I finally watched Stranger Things with my dad. I really enjoyed it, but I don’t think it’s the best thing I saw in 2016. I also watched my standard episodes of Conviction and Designated Survivor—I’m starting to get a little bored with DS, which sucks because I love it so much. I started a new show called Sweet/Vicious, which isn’t great but it’s enjoyable enough.
Movie-wise, I finally saw Fantastic Beasts—again, I really enjoyed it but it’s not my favourite movie of the year. I also re-watched The Hunger Games for a post I’m organising with Dina, and I saw Batman Begins for the first time, and The Dark Knight for the second or third. I wanted to end this section on a high note—earlier in the month I watched this incredible movie called The Way He Looks. I’ll be talking more about this very shortly, but I just wanted to flag it. I can’t wait to fangirl about it soon.
I did very little writing this month, but I did come up with some more things to research in January. I’ll be talking more about that in a writing update at the end of the month.
So life-wise, December was shitty to say the least. The first three days were good—I stayed over at Michelle’s and we blogged lots and then went to sleep at 10pm, because we’re wild. On the 5th, I woke up to find I couldn’t breathe or move, and then I was admitted into the emergency department of my local hospital. I was moved to the ICU that day with Diabetic ketoacidosis, or DKA—which is a life-threatening Diabetes complication that I am unfortunately prone to. I slept an entire week of December away, and then went back to work the following Wednesday.
I’m doing okay now, but I’m still not entirely myself again. As a result, I really didn’t too much in the lead up to or over Christmas. It was nice to have a bit of a rest before I started work again on the 3rd of January. Though I have to say, I’m ready for a proper holiday.
That was my December. How was yours?
