Some of you may know that for the last two years Ely and I have hosted a readathon known as Bookentine, and we are pleased to announce that we will be hosting this readathon yet again in 2017! This is honestly the highlight of our year, so we really hope some of you will join in for the biggest and most exciting round we’ve had yet.
Bookentine is a genre specific readathon that focuses on contemporary novels (see definition below) and is usually set around the Valentine’s Day. We’ve included a definition this year due to some confusion in previous years. Remember that a contemporary doesn’t necessarily mean a romance-heavy, beach read—we’ll be talking more about that in the future, though.
The definition of ‘contemporary’, as googled by us is: A contemporary YA novel is a story about a teenage character that takes place in our current time and deals with the concerns of modern day life. (Definition from here)
The dates for 2017 are the 13th to the 20th of February. There are three challenges but overall, this is a relaxed readathon so they’re not something to stress about but rather just a fun way to help pick your TBR.
The challenges are:
Read a book with red and/or pink on the cover,
Read a book by an author you haven’t read before,
Read a book featuring mental illness or disability.
There will be some posts coming up throughout January, including our TBRs to get you hyped up and ready to read with us! So keep your eyes pealed!! There will also be a chance for you to win some of our favourite contemporary novels once the read-a-thon is under way.
If you are interested in joining us for this readathon, please feel free to do so by leaving us a comment. We’ll also be using the hashtag #Bookentine, if you want to join in on social media!
