I actually had this entire post written and ready to go the other day, and then something huge happened! It completely changed everything I’d written in that post, so I’m going to reconfigure it but for now, you’ve got this post.
What was that huge thing that happened?
I finished a novel! Yes, I finally managed to finish book number three—Abditory. It’s 65605 words, which makes it my longest first draft to date. Though, it’s only about 200 words longer than TT.
It’s basically an entirely different story from the start. In my mind I had this idea of where it would go and who the characters would become, but everything has changed. I do really like it as a whole, but like everything else, there’s a lot of editing to do. I’ve got a completely different world in my head for my characters to explore.
Basically, for those of you who don’t know. Abditory started off as paranormal/supernatural-ish WWII novel. While it’s still set in WWII, I think my characters would be better suited in an alternate history. It would make a lot more sense and be way more believable.
I always like to give myself a couple of weeks (or months) before I do my first read-through of my books. I think that gives me time to step away from the story a little and see it more objectively. It also comes at a perfect time because I’m pretty busy at the moment.
I still have my betas reading through Ketura for me so I don’t have to stress too much about that one either. I did mention in my August wrap up that I’ve starting planning Untethered, the sequel to TT, which has been fun so far. I’m working on character arcs at the moment so that I know what’s going on with everyone.
As of right now, that’s all I’ve got going. I’ve got a heap load of Uni work to be doing, so I’m letting myself have a little break from writing. I’ve only got four weeks left of actual classes, with another week and a half of assignment due dates before I’m on break again. I am doing the summer trimester so I can graduate and start my Honours in March, but they are all electives so it shouldn’t be too stressful. With any hope I can do some more writing during that time!
